Part of our guide: The Complete Home Renovation Guide for Greater Vancouver Homeowners
One of the first questions homeowners ask us is what a bathroom renovation will cost. The honest answer is that it depends on the size of the space, the materials you choose, and how much of the layout changes. Here is how we think about it, so you can plan with realistic numbers.
The three levels of bathroom renovation
A cosmetic refresh keeps the existing layout and updates the visible surfaces: new vanity, fixtures, paint, and sometimes flooring. This is the most budget-friendly option and the fastest to complete.
A standard renovation replaces most elements and may adjust the layout slightly, such as swapping a tub for a walk-in shower. This is the most common project we do, and it delivers the biggest visible transformation for the money.
A full gut renovation takes the room back to the studs, often changes the layout, and can include moving plumbing and electrical. It costs the most and takes the longest, but it lets you build exactly the bathroom you want.
What drives the price
The biggest cost factors are moving plumbing, the tile and fixtures you select, and whether the space needs waterproofing or structural repair. Heated floors, custom glass, and natural stone add to the total. Labour is a significant part of any quote because tiling and waterproofing are skilled, time-intensive work that protect your home from moisture damage for years.
